If you would like to start a business for under $100, I’d highly recommend looking into being a direct seller. Typically you can become an agent for less than $100 and you are not expected to invest in stock, a website, stationery or rental to be up and running. What you will need is time, patience and a good phone plan and reliable access to the internet. You’ll be given a business plan (some companies encourage you to be your own entrepreneur, others like you to follow their ‘tried and tested’methodology) and a mentor. Reputable direct selling businesses usually throw in free training. (Check out www.dsaa.asn.au for a listing members of the industry body)
As with all start ups, the initial returns are low to non-existent, but persistence and hard work will see you in profit in your first year, and things can really take off from there. I’d encourage anyone considering going into business for themselves to spend 6-12 months as a consultant for a good direct selling operation. You’ll learn so much and the risk is minimal. Even if you decide that it isn’t the right area for you, the experience will be invaluable.
