The lovely staff let me gift wrap my choices myself. I didn't do an especially neat job - there was a small plastic shark involved which made it difficult to to do neat, flat corners - but they were kind enough to compliment me.
The thing they were most interested in was that I spurned their offer of sticky tape. I once read that a present should be easy to open - struggling with bows that don't undo or heavily taped packages in a sign of a poorly wrapped present. So I try to secure my gifts with ribbon and firm folding of the paper alone.
Sure, this method can involve holding everything down with a weight whilst you get the ribbon around it, but I feel smug in the knowldge that my gift will reveal itself simply and elegantly to the recipient, without them needing to attack it with scissors and grappling hooks.
I call it Ninja wrapping.
