Some people love to get organised early and love to start planning their Christmas a few months out. Others feel pressured and view the Christmas advertising as crass commercialisation.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I love Christmas but I'm not sure I want it to start in September. But I know quite a few of my mummy friends are already deciding on presents and an intimidatingly organised few have already started shopping. Trying to fit everything into December can make it an expensive and hysterical time of year, sucking some of the pleasure out of a celebration that should be fun, not stressful. And it isn't just the retailers who demand that we start planning for Christmas now.
Australia Post's last dates for Sea Mail start in mid September. Last postage date for the UK is 21 September. (For all the the dates check: http://auspost.com.au/about-us/do-not-miss-the-boat-for-christmas-sea-mail.html). However, even they want to have it both ways. You can't use the discounted 'card only' stamps until November. So post early, but not too early!
